History
of the Assemblies of God in Albania
The Assemblies of God first established
a missionary presence in 1991. The missionaries were not greeted
by an underground church as in other Communist countries, so they
began by providing a modern Albanian language translation of the
Bible.
In addition to the message of Jesus
Christ, the missionaries brought education and technology to Albania.
They started a school for missionary kids which has served as a
model for an Albanian Christian school. They have provided numerous
professional and technical courses on subjects such as health care,
hospital management, elementary education, university level curriculum
development, business, and the economy.
The first church, International Protestant
Assembly, was established in 1992 and today is the largest Protestant
Evangelical church in Albania. In late 1998, two new church-planting
efforts were begun by our missionaries in Tirana and Fush Kruje.
Attendance has grown to around 100 people in the Sunday services.
Many Muslims respond to the invitation to accept Christ as lives
are changed and disciples are made.
