History
of the Assemblies of God in Belize
Two workers
from Jamaica took the Pentecostal message to British Honduras in
1946. They held street meetings and cottage prayer meetings in Belize
City, and in a short time they established a sizeable congregation.
In 1951 the first Assemblies of God appointed missionaries came
to Belize and realized the importance of training workers for evangelism.
They started an evening Bible institute as well as a day school
for children. In 1956 a church conference was organized and more
responsibility for the work was placed upon the national believers.
The Assemblies
of God of Belize occupies headquarters on the campus of the Belize
Bible Institute in Belize City. Training pastors is a high priority
in this nation. The Bible Institute trains pastors to evangelize
the lost and to shepherd congregations. As a result, many Bible
school students have gone out to plant churches.
