History
of the Assemblies of God in Ireland
An outpouring of the Holy Spirit in
the early 1970Ős, which embraced many Roman Catholics, prepared
an open door for the first missionaries to Ireland in 1978. This
revival had created a readiness in many Catholics to accept further
Pentecostal ministry and instruction in the Word of God. To reach
spiritually hungry people the missionaries used weekend retreats
and home Bible studies.
The Pentecostal revival in Ireland
led to a hunger for more knowledge of the Word of God. All of the
training materials offered by International Correspondence Institute
became available to Irish believers. When the Irish Bible College
was formed in Dublin in 1982, the missionaries used ICI materials
as their core curriculum.
In 1983 the home meetings these
missionaries were holding resulted in the formation of the first
Pentecostal church in Dublin. The Irish Assemblies of God was eventually
formed, and in 1985 was officially recognized by the Irish government.
