History
of the Assemblies of God in Macedonia
Macedonia is the least evangelized
country in Europe, counting less than 1,500 born-again believers
from its 2.2 million people. The truth is that there is no single
Evangelical group that is very strong.
The Pentecostal work in Macedonia
began in the 1980Ős with students from the Evangelical Seminary
in Osijek establishing what is now called the Evangelical Church.
In the early 90Ős Swedish missionaries helped establish the Pentecostal
Church.
Recently, the Kosova Crisis has
changed the focus of ministry in Macedonia. Though Kosavar refugees
had been trickling into Macedonia since 1998, in early 1999 that
trickle turned into a flood. Both Pentecostal groups and the Macedonia
missionary force quickly mobilized and consulted together. They
agreed to share in equal thirds the materials brought into the country
and at the same time, specialize where each was better prepared
to work. A Kosova church has been established which is a base to
minister physically and spiritually to the refugees. There have
been many converts among the Kosovar refugees and among the Albanian
Macedonians as well.
