History of the Assemblies of God in Portugal

From the establishment of the first Assemblies of God church in Portimao in 1924, the work has developed and spread throughout the country and continues to do so today. But the need for leadership training became increasingly evident as the church continued to open new works and grow. Bible School training began with the Lisbon church with short-term sessions and later evolved into a six-month Bible institute. In 1975, the Assemblies of God USA came to establish a full-time Bible school that opened in September 1975 with 23 students.

Other ongoing ministries of our missionaries include the Department of Material Development which is providing many resource materials for Christian pastors and workers, a retreat and conference center, and a partnership with Operation Joshua, a discipleship and evangelism group. Support and help is provided for various church-planting, humanitarian, and evangelistic outreaches as well.
