History
of the Assemblies of God in Slovenia
In 1952, a Croatian, Sister Brkic,
began a Bible study in her home in lower Slovenia, in the city of
Novo Mesto. Her son Daniel now pastors the church that runs around
200 people, the largest in the Pentecostal Union. Through the years,
the Assemblies of God USA has established a relationship with the
Pentecostal Union, which became a part of the Worldwide Assemblies
of God Fellowship in 1994.
In 1996 David Campbell and Mihael
Kuzmic began a Bible School with 10 students. The purpose of the
Bible school is to assist the National church in reaching its goals
and vision Ð to train and plant 60 churches in all of the towns
and villages of Slovenia which have more than 2,000 people, over
the next 10 years.
Though Slovenia is one of the most
beautiful countries in Eastern Europe, it is a country that is under
heavy spiritual oppression. The people suffer a great deal from
depression, which has lead to alcoholism being a national epidemic.
It also has the worldÕs highest per capita suicide rate. Slovenia
is a very spiritually needy country.
