Joann Butrin began her medical missionary service in 1972
in the country of Zaire, Africa. There she worked with mobile
clinics and rural hospitials in forest areas, worked with
community health promotion projects, and was actively involved
with womens and childrens work within the local
church.
After earning the RN diploma at Geisinger medical Center
School of Nursing in Danville, Pa., Dr. Butrin completed th
B.S. degree at Evangel College in Springfield, Mo. She later
earned an M.S. degree from Penn State University and a PhD
from the University of Minnesota.
In the past nine years, Dr. Butrin has functioned as
the Health Education Coordinator and International Operations
Director for the Assemblies of God medical missions program,
HealthCare Ministries. With this exciting outreach, JoAnn
ahs traveled to many countries with teams of volunteer doctors,
dentists, and nurses, offering physical and spiritual care
to those in need. She has authored two books concerning health
in developing countries and a third book on ministry to persons
with AIDS.
Dr. Butrin was appointed Director of HealthCare Minitries
in 1996. She oversees the international operations of the
ministry which include short-term medical evangelism teams,
health education and childrens health programs, missionary
health and longer-term medical projects such as medical relief
and community health.
